Abusing the TBR Pile

My reading lately has taken a turn for the super slow as it does every summer. Thankfully, I had a couple of Jane Austen audiobooks to get me through. I'd never read Northanger Abbey, and now it's seriously threatening to replace Persuasion as my favorite!

I'm looking forward to August, when life gets back to normal, and I can make at least a dimple in my out-of-control TBR pile! And, of course, I'm still adding to it.

There's some good stuff coming out this month that I don't want to miss. Like Havemercy by Jaida Jones and Danielle Bennett. This is the first epic fantasy in a long time that has caught my eye.

Bound by Shadow by Anna Windsor kicks off a back-to-back released series that sounds too kick butt to miss. And Hidden by Even Kenin is a sequel that's high on my list. Electra Galaxy's Mr. Interstellar Feller by Candace Sams has one of the niftiest titles since Savanna's Murder By Hairspray in Gardenia, New Atlantis. I love the Darkyn series by Lynn Viehl and Twilight Fall is just sitting there, begging me to read it. As is The Iron Hunt by Marjorie Liu! I'm a huge Lilith Saintcrow fangirl, and she's launched a new series. Night Shift is the first one.

So, what are you all reading? What books are you adding to your TBR piles this month? Since I'm posting this late, you have 'till the next post goes up tomorrow to comment. A random commenter will win a book of her choice from her wishlist! (As long as the book in question is still in print.)

Hi Mel! I too have The Iron Hunt in my TBR pile and can't wait to read it. I also have The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter, Sin by Sharon Page, and I'm currently re-reading The 7 Deadly Sins of Science Fiction (this collection of short stories is one of the best, IMHO).

I don't have a lot of time to read in the summer--winter is my big reading time but I'm able to get a few minutes here and there.

The ones I want to read are Sam's Creed by Sarah McCarty, The Iron Hunt, The Healer by Sharon Sala, The Beast in Him by Shelly Laurenston & When He Was Bad by Shelly also. Just to name a few of them.....sigh.... so many great books and so little time. LOL

Mel, that was too good. I was reading that fabulous title, thinking how much I luved it, then you mentioned Murder by Hair Spray!

What am I reading? I'm reading and editing Black Cat Beauty before I send it off to Liquid Silver, to find out it my black cat halloween girl will find her home there.

If not...I think she'll find home, hopefully in time for a Halloween release...hope, hope, crossing fingers hope.

P.S. I need to get a copy of 'said' great title. It looks wonderful.

Hi Anitra! Iron Hunt is first in my queue. I love the Dirk and Steele series, and I actually won my copy from Lynn Viehl's blog. 'Bout made my summer! :-)

Hey Larena! I hear you there. I've finally surrendered to the fact that I will never get through that TBR pile. But at least I'm guaranteed to always have something to read. :-P

Savanna, I LOVE Murder By Hairspray's title! Crossing my fingers for Black Cat Beauty!

I've done very well in getting hold of some of my wish list in the last couple of weeks, but they're mostly crime. Top of the romance TBR pile at the moment is Anna Louise Lucia's Run Among Thorns. She gave a talk at the RNA Conference that Helen and I just attended and signed the book for me. Plus I'm curently stalking the new Harlan Coben and Marion Keyes in the library.

Interesting choices and I've got most of them in my own TBR pile - Iron Hunt, Night Shift, Twilight Fall. Hadn't realised AW had a new book out under a slightly different name so I'm wishlisting that and the Candace Sams' another I hadn't heard of. They're both authors I really like. I'm currently reading Sam's Creed. I'm finding it a bit slower paced than her previous books but I really like the hero and heroine.

I just started reading Fearless Fourteen by Janet Evanovich.

I have The Iron Hunt on my wish list too, as well as:

The Warlord by Angela Knight
When He Was Bad by Cynthia Eden and Shelly Laurenston
Death Angel by Linda Howard
Moving Target by Cheyenne McCray
Aiden's Charity by Lora Leigh

Some great August releases too. Looking forward to the two new Lora Leigh stories, a new Penny McCall, as well as a new Cindy Gerard.

Okay, I want the latest Sarah McCarty book Sam's Creed. I'd love the next in Lora Leigh's bound hearts series, whenever that comes out. Can't wait for Joey Hill's Unlaced anthology to come out as well. Want Lauren Dane's one that's due to come out in December. I'm not too greedy, am I? Nahhh

Oh, are we listing books we want but don't have yet? That puts a serious spin on the landscape as I have a list of about 200 books I am waiting to buy.

Sigh. I make the time to read but what gets me is the pocketbook.

Back when I worked as an accountant, I spent over 5K a year on books--Amazon.com sent me several gifts for my buying habits. :)

Things are different now that I'm working from home for a lot less. So, if I win the magical free book ticket, I'll delve through that list. :)

Oh, I forgot to mention that I too loved Sav's title. However, I always wanted to shorten it to Murder by Hairspray. I swear, that title makes me wanna run out and buy that book! Now, I'm not telling tales out of school since I've told Sav this and she explained why the longer title. Still, long or short, Sav has some books in my TBR list right along with several other of our members. :)

Hey, Anitra! We're just talking books. What we're reading now, what we want to read, whatever. I don't think I have the brain for much else at the moment! :-)

Laura, I'm Googling all those authors as we speak! Well, except for Lora Leigh. She's slowly but surely making it up the "Wanna Read" queue.

Cathy, I'm looking forward to that new Linda Howard. Mr. Perfect completely hooked me and she's been an auto-read ever since!

Guess that's what happens when readers start talking books, Tina! We're dangerous! :-P

Sounds like you have great taste, Dawn! I'll have to check out Sarah McCarty as well!

Evonne, I saw an ad for Run Among Thorns, and it looked really interesting! Let me know how you like it?

Oh, Anitra, you are so sweet. If you have time to read, let me know, and I'll send you whichever one of my first two titles you want.
Although, I'm bettin' you're going to be really busy Virgin Harvest, and being an author with Kensington.

That goes for the rest of the Title Magicians. I still have enough to give out, and I think the publishers made their initial first strike money.

Boy! did I need this break!

Mel--can't believe I'm stressing your brain since mine is so fried with everything going on! :) Really, I'm writing, reading, blogging, singing, dancing, and running white-water rapids. ;) When I do get a chance to sleep it's like, sleep, what is this? Perhaps a chance to dream? LOL! But I'm thrilled to have so much going on.

Sav--I'd love to read Red Lioness Tamed if you have a chance to send it! I honestly love that 50's throw-back cover and I find the title inviting! Yes, Kensington is keeping me busy but I do make time to read and I'd love to read YOU!

I've just finished reading Lands Beyond The Sea by Tamara Mckinley, which I loved. I only realised there is a second half to the story coming out in October when I finished. Now I have to wait...ack. I'm now reading The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton--more literary than commercial. Not sure what I think of this book yet. On my wish list (soon to be aquired in SF): Mustang Wild by Stacey Kayne, My Lord And Spymaster by Joanna Bourne, When Twilight Burns by Colleen Gleason Letters To A Secret Lover by Toni Blake, A Vintage Murder by Michele Scott.

I've just realised what a mix these are: an historical western, a Regency spy story, Victorian urban fantasy, contemporary romance, and cosy mystery.

Hi Mel. I'm having a hard time keeping from the bookstore this month. I told myself I absolutely cannot step foot inside a bookstore because I know I'll be spending a good chunk of cash there come August when all the bool releases come out! At the top of August release books to get is Ash's much anticipated book from Sherrilyn Kenyon! Can't wait!!

Today I had to take my car in for some TLC and started The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter--I'm 100 pages in and it's wonderful! I was disappointed they finished working on my car so fast since I haven't had time to get back to it today. I have a feeling I'll be staying up late tonight to finish it! :)
