Here are SEVEN *new* paragraphs ~ 

Declan levered himself to his feet, mindful of his leg. The move brought him closer to Killian. On impulse he reached out and patted Killian’s arm. Wolves were a physical breed, given to romps and shoulder-bumps and playful nips and pawing. Declan missed that, too.

The hawk-man jerked away. “Don’t,” he sputtered. “Bad for the feathers.”

“You don’t have feathers in this form.” He captured Killian’s face in his palm. So pretty. Sharp as a blade. Eyes like golden fire. He slid his fingers tenderly along Killian’s cheek. The hawk remained silent. Only the quiver of his limbs betrayed his agitation.

“This isn’t hair,” Declan realized. “Is it down?”

Killian’s scent soured with confusion and alarm. Suddenly he did have feathers, and wings and talons and a beak. The hawk shot skyward from a standing start, becoming a speck within seconds.

“Huh,” Declan muttered. A strange one, the hawk-shifter. As wild as the true beasts that lived here. And yet… There’d been that brush of feathers through his hair. Killian was too skilled a flyer for that to have been accidental.

What would it take to quiet that suspicion, gain his trust, win his heart? Feel that wiry body writhe beneath him? Taste that narrow chest, those tempting lips? Hear those shrill, exultant cries and know he was the cause?
