A whole neighborhood had to be evacuated because they built Limerick directly across the river. The houses are just sitting there, rotting away ... There were rumors at the time the guy was actually special ops who was trying to prevent sabotage, instead of sabotaging.

Here's the info from a news story:

"Radiation discharge near Philadelphia kept secret from public for weeks - No immediate health concerns, says NRC
LIMERICK - "Several thousand gallons" of water containing as much as five-times the government's "safe" level of radioactive tritium was accidentally released at Exelon Nuclear's Limerick Generating Station last month and then flushed into the Schuylkill River, The Mercury learned Thursday."

Yeah, no problem with radiation ~sarcasm, of course~Savanna Kougarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15698138048388102279noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8850524524995973615.post-5364717293216274592012-04-17T13:43:45.633-05:002012-04-17T13:43:45.633-05:00No, I hadn't heard anything, but I missed the ...No, I hadn't heard anything, but I missed the news last night. It's not the Limerick nuke plant, is it? That's far enough from me that I'm not worried.

Now Three Mile Island, outside of Harrisburg, that's less than an hour's drive from where I live. That's the one I keep a close eye on.

Hey! Wanna hear a scary story about TMI? The place has security out the wazoo. Every possible form of attack or saboutage is covered and trained for. So what happened? Some nut crashed a pickup truck through the gate a couple years back. Assault on Gate with Truck was not in the manual, apparently. The guy got loose in the facility and they couldn't find him for FOUR HOURS. Just think of the damage a wack job could do to a nuke plant in even half that time.

I think I'll move back to New Jersey.
